Hi-tech hopeful Ramtron Australia Ltd has signed a joint-venture agreement with Alcan Aluminum Corp which it hopes will take it a step closer to mass-producing its computer chips.
Ramtron's US subsidiary, Ramtron International, yesterday stitched up the deal which will include a $6.7 million equity injection by the Canadian based refiner into Ramtron International.
Ramtron shares continued their uptrend after the announcement, rising another 5c to $1.80.
According to Ramtron International president Mr Richard Horton, the deal is the second stage in an Alcan funded co-development program which will merge Alcan's materials and manufacturing process with Ramtron's patented technology.
The first stage in the partnership involved a technical feasibility study on the most economical way of bringing Ramtron's ferro-electronic random access memory technology into production.
Mr Horton said the partnership with Alcan "was a logical step in the broad scale commercialisation and mass production of FRAM products".
