Designer Bathware

Rogerseller is a great place to head for marvellous new bathware pieces with a fashion edge. The Aluminum and System ranges, pictured, launched by Italian manufacturer Cosmic in Frankfurt earlier this year, have arrived. There are cabinets, storage solutions, shelves and mirrors in pale oak (the new wenge) and aluminium - beautiful, modern stuff. Also new are a range of sleek mirrors with frosted glass surrounds and matt, steel waste bins that don't mark as easily as the polished versions. Rogerseller embraces the art of keeping it simple. 115 Flinders Street, Darlinghurst, 9332 4800.

Buy Stationery

One thing that has always been hard to get in this town is great notepaper. Well, until now. An amazing selection of paper - the sort of hip, colourful stuff you can usually only pick up in New York, London or Paris - is available at the new Paper Boutique, a concept shop located within selected W. C. Penfold outlets. From retro to plain, textured to embossed, metallic to glittery and transparent, you can get the lot here, with more than 1,200 designs to choose from in every colour imaginable. The fashion crowd love it - and it is super-cheap, from 60 cents a piece. Buy the paper in bulk, chuck it in a drawer and use it for jotting notes to pals, invitations or even covering pencil pots. 82 Pitt Street and 299 Elizabeth Street, City; 416-418 Oxford Street Mall, Bondi Junction. Inquiries: 1800 999 927.

Homeware Shop

Velvet Underground is a new label to watch. The Melbourne-based design house has launched a strong and exciting collection of homeware. The family business manufactures its wares in Hanoi and has been selling them successfully in France and Belgium before turning to Australia. It makes much of its wares from silk, velvet and satin, with a range of luxury throws, quilts and flat, square mattress cushions with cotton wadding. There is a glorious range of lighting, including the Bordello light, pictured, with a ridged wooden base and silk tassel shade with velvet ribbon trim. Also available are books, Buddhas and hand-carved wooden frames in antique wash, natural or gold leaf. 18/61 Darling Street, South Yarra, Victoria.

Inquiries: Richard Grieve, 0402 102 165.

Always lusted after a lovely slate roof? Nu-Lok's ceramic and slate shingles, which are installed using an innovative lock system, make shingles an affordable option. These ceramic shingles in Italian vitrified stone have been put through stringent tests for strength and durability and should be resistant to hail, moss, fungi and acid. They come in charcoal, black, terracotta, dark green and burgundy, and can be custom-ordered in most colours. And they come with a 50-year guarantee. Inquiries: 9482 9519 or www.nu-lok.com

Sale Furniture

Hurrah! Norman & Quaine is having its first ever sale: 10 per cent off its entire stock, including those best-selling sofas, Hudson and Lola. Since Katherine Norman, pictured right, and Caroline Quaine, left, opened the doors to business 11 years ago, they have gained a huge following for their simple yet sophisticated, contemporary furniture range, designed and produced in Australia. There are seven fabulous additions. A new Columbia sofa is available as a three- or four-seater. There are three elegant armchairs - Grace (fully upholstered), Cuba (on nylon glides) and Maxwell (with solid timber arms that can be stained to order). Then there is the Bruno coffee and side table, which has a stainless steel frame and offers tops in coloured glass, polymer, stone or timber. The new Luka coffee table and low-slung Chandra storage unit, pictured, in timber veneer or white polyurethane come in three lengths, with an assortment of sliding doors to choose from. The sale runs until December 21; orders required before Christmas must be placed by November 17. Mon-Fri 9 am-5 pm, Sat 11 am-4 pm. 74 Commonwealth Street, Surry Hills, 9212 3542.
